Kim Kardashian’s Plea to Joe Biden: Help Prevent Another Armenian Genocide by Reducing Aid to Azerbaijan, As She Criticizes the UN and EU for Failing to Act

Kim Kardashian, who is of Armenian descent, has called on President Joe Biden to take action and prevent another Armenian genocide by imposing economic sanctions on Azerbaijan, its enemy nation. She co-wrote an essay with Dr. Eric Esrailian, expressing concern that since December, Azerbaijan has blocked the Lachin Corridor, which is the only means of survival for indigenous Christian Armenians living in Artsakh. Azerbaijan officials have disputed these claims, stating that there are alternative routes for food and aid to reach Armenians in Artsakh. However, Kardashian believes that these statements are not accurate. The two countries have been caught in a long-standing conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh since a separatist war ended in 1994. Kardashian urged President Biden to intervene to avoid another genocide, saying that she and her fellow Armenians do not want to commemorate another genocide in the future. Kardashian also claimed that Azerbaijan has become more daring in its actions towards Armenia because many countries are turning to it for oil and gas following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Dr. Esrailian, Kardashian's co-author- is a gastroenterologist and professor of medicine at UCLA - and like Kardashian, a prominent American of Armenian descent

Dr. Esrailian, who is a gastroenterologist and a professor of medicine at UCLA, shares Armenian heritage with Kardashian, and the two have co-authored an essay shedding light on the dire situation in the contested region between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to the essay, the war in Ukraine has led some countries to view Azerbaijan as a more favorable alternative to Russian oil and gas, which has emboldened the Azeri government to use starvation as a weapon against the Armenian population in the region. Kardashian expressed her concern over the continuing attacks by Azerbaijan on Armenia despite the cease-fire agreement reached in 2020. The reality star accused governments and organizations of turning a blind eye to the impending genocide in Armenia, which is being facilitated by American taxpayers’ foreign aid to an oil-rich nation. Kardashian emphasized that every day that passes puts more lives at risk, and that it’s time for action and not just thoughts and prayers. She cited several independent reports, including one from the United Nations’ own Special Rapporteur, that have concluded that Azerbaijan is systematically denying Armenians medical care and starving them.

Azerbaijan leaders claim there are established routes for food and aid to reach Christian Armenians in Artsakh, but Kardashian said those claims 'are 'disingenuous at best

According to Kardashian, the claims made by Azerbaijan leaders regarding established routes for food and aid to reach Christian Armenians in Artsakh are hardly credible.

In 2020, Kardashian announced a $1million donation to the Armenia Fund. She is pictured with her daughter North in Armenia in 2019

In 2019, Kardashian visited Armenia with her daughter North and was moved to donate $1 million to the Armenia Fund in 2020 after conflict broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over a disputed region. In an effort to bring about change, Kardashian suggested implementing economic sanctions, cutting off foreign aid to Azerbaijan, boycotting international events held there, and seeking legal action in international courts. Dr. Esrailian, who is also of Armenian descent, shares Kardashian’s passion for this cause. Although the region is governed by ethnic Armenians, Azerbaijan has been accused of attempting to invade Armenia and the situation remains tense.

An estimated two million Armenians were deported and 1.5 million were killed in the events known as Metz Yeghern in 1915-16

Around 1.5 million Armenians lost their lives and approximately two million were forcefully relocated during the Metz Yeghern events of 1915-16. Recently, Armenia reported that Azerbaijan had launched a heavy shelling attack using artillery and firearms, targeting Armenian military positions near Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk during the early hours of the day. However, Azerbaijan’s defense ministry accused Armenia of undertaking large-scale subversive acts near the Dashkesan, Kelbajar, and Lachin border districts, adding that its army positions came under fire, including from trench mortars. In 2021, US President Joe Biden officially acknowledged the systematic killings and deportations of hundreds of thousands of Armenians by Ottoman Empire forces as ‘genocide’, which had previously been avoided out of concerns for damaging relations with NATO ally Turkey. Last year, a congressional delegation led by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi traveled to Armenia to express support during a time when the conflict had escalated.
